About OSMaD

OSMaD is a non-professional company that draws widely from those interested in music, theatre performance, and production.

OSMaD - The Old Scotch Music and Drama Club - had its beginnings in the Old Scotch Music Club (OSMC) formed originally in October 2005. Scotch College has an association with Music and Drama which now stretches over 165 years and a warranted reputation for excellence.

However, there had been little opportunity for past students to continue the involvement developed during school days.

Timed to coincide with the completion of the James Forbes Academy, the inception of the OSMC was designed to provide an avenue to allow past students to continue their involvement in music.

OSMC became OSMaD in 2008 with the mounting of an ambitious full-scale production of Les Miserables. Since then OSMaD has continued with an annual musical theatre production -

Each of these musical productions has delighted audiences and drawn wide praise from critics, winning awards and gaining nominations from the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria and the Lyrebird Awards.

All productions have been staged in the Geoffrey McComas Theatre; a fully resourced state-of-the-art theatrical space.

All shows have drawn on the interest and resources which exist in the broader amateur theatrical community network and an open audition policy has always been in place to ensure that the cast and crew, whilst remaining amateur, is of the highest quality possible. In this sense the company, while encouraging participation from past students, is not restricted to the Scotch College community.

Melbourne is fortunate in that it has Australia's most vibrant non-professional theatre scene and the brilliance of those who auditioned for past OSMaD productions has been a testament to that.
